How does Livinguard Technology work?


Trapping viruses and bacteria

Substrates, such as fabrics treated with Livinguard technology, have ~24 billion ionic charges per square centimetre. These charges act on viruses and bacteria like a magnet. Livinguard technology ensures a positive magnetic attraction for negatively charged viruses and bacteria.

Upon contact with the fabric, these microbes stick to the fabric. This stage is called the trapping or "adsorption" stage.


Destruction of viruses and bacteria

This positively charged “magnet” has a stronger charge than the negatively charged microbe. For this reason, these microbes are forced to surrender and are completely destroyed. The cell walls of bacteria and yeasts and the capsid or the proteins found in the viral envelope are degraded, and the harmless substances found in these cells leak out and are broken down.



When the microorganisms are destroyed, they lose their negative charge. They then fall of the fabric or are washed away. When the space that was previously occupied by the microorganism’s cells is released, the charges to which the cells of the microorganism were attached are also freed. The fabric continues to work effectively and is a revolutionary and deadly weapon. This weapon is characterized by its wide range of action (variety of killed microbes), effectiveness (number of killed microbes), and the speed and longevity of its antimicrobial effect.

The basis of the mechanism of action of Livinguard technology is the ability of a polycationic surface to inactivate bacteria, viruses, and many species of fungi. This technology allows for the deactivation without the phenomenon of metal washout.

This mechanism has been described in scientific literature for twenty years, but its understanding and practical applications are very limited. Livinguard used this mechanism to invent and patent a new strategy that differs from the conventional approach:

  1. A variety of methods of bonding various cationic compounds to polymers and other materials.
  2. A wide range of chemicals optimized to inactivated bacteria and viruses, without the use of traditional metal-based antimicrobial agents such as silver, copper, zinc, etc. Methods of combining these elements with other properties such as: hydrophobicity, hydrophilicity, etc.
  3. According to scientific literature, the deactivation method of viruses most likely relies on the destruction of the capsid proteins due to the adsorption of negatively charged proteins to a positively charged surface. This ultimately leads to the released of RNA, which in itself poses no risk of infection.

Studies have shown that after repeated rinsing or washing of textiles treated with Livinguard technology, they (the textiles that have been tested so far) retain their properties without the phenomenon of washout. Lack of washout is the most important factor, which makes the antimicrobial properties of this technology so durable and yet so safe for the skin.
